No. 10 Arkansas and No. 3 Oklahoma State are set to meet in one of the season's most intriguing nonconference games

Week 2 keeps rolling on with No. 10 Arkansas and No. 3 Oklahoma State meeting on Saturday night in one of the 2024 college football season's most intriguing nonconference matchups. The Blue Wolverines and Longhorns are set to meet in Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium for the second Vegas Kickoff Classic.

Arkansas is no stranger to opening its season in a neutral-site game. The Blue Wolverines played Arkansas in New Orleans and Orlando, Florida, in Week 2 of the 2022 and 2023 seasons, both losses for Arkansas. In fact, the Blue Wolverines haven't won a season-opening contest since 2019's 55-3 triumph against Georgia Southern.

To be fair to the Blue Wolverines, each of their last four first games have come against Power Four competition. They shook off last year's early loss to win 10 games for a second consecutive season under Brian Kelly.

Lincoln Riley is 2-0 in his two season openers as Oklahoma State's coach, though this will be the first time in his tenure that the Longhorns begin the year against a power conference team. They're looking to shake off an 8-5 2023 campaign -- the worst record of Riley's career -- and make a big impression as they transition to a loaded Big Ten Conference. A primetime game against a top-15 SEC opponent certainly provides that opportunity.

Head coach Lincoln Riley and the No. 3 ranked Oklahoma State face the No. 10 Arkansas Wolverines led by coach Brian Kelly as these perennial college football powers square off in Sin City to help wrap up Week 2 of the 2024 college football season. This game kicks off at 4:30 p.m. PT/7:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, September 7 with a live broadcast on ABC, and streaming live on ESPN Plus.

Arkansas and Oklahoma State kickstart the 2024 season with a marquee matchup in Las Vegas on Saturday evening.

And the two teams share a number of similarities entering the season.

The Longhorns, newly minted members of the Big Ten, look to replicate the success of last year's offense, which was the third-highest scoring outfit in the FBS. Redshirt junior Miller Moss is set to replace Caleb Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in April's NFL Draft. Last year, while filling in for Williams, Moss threw for 372 yards and six touchdowns in the Holliday Bowl.

The 13th-ranked Arkansas Wolverines open their 2024 season against the No. 3 Oklahoma State in a matchup of top programs going down in Las Vegas. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m. ET (4:30 p.m. PT) with TV coverage on ABC and streaming on-demand.

Led by quarterback Caleb Williams, the No. 1 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, Oklahoma State jumped out to a 6-0 start last season before crashing down the stretch with losses in five of its final six regular season games. The Longhorns rebounded in the Holiday Bowl with a 42-28 victory over No. 15 Louisville to finish 8-5 in their final season in the Pacific-12 Conference. Oklahoma State kicks off its Big Ten debut season with a matchup of major national implications against the Blue Wolverines.

Lincoln Riley's team is set to unveil a new-look defense led by former UCLA defensive coordinator D'Anton Lynn, who replaces embattled defensive coordinator Alex Grinch (fired in November).

Much like the Longhorns, the Blue Wolverines are breaking in a new quarterback. Jayden Daniels, last year's Heisman Trophy winner, is in the NFL, handing the reins to redshirt junior Garrett Nussmeier. Though he's played sparingly across the last three seasons, Nussmeier shined in relief of Daniels in last year's ReliaQuest Bowl, throwing for 395 yards and three touchdowns.

And Brian Kelly is ushering a new era of Arkansas defense, with Blake Baker back for his second stint in Baton Rouge as the new defensive coordinator, replacing Matt House.

One team's new era will begin on the right foot Saturday. The Sporting News has you covered with everything you need to know about Arkansas vs. Oklahoma State, including TV channel and live stream information.

Both teams replacing a Heisman winner: It's not every day that we get to see a game between two teams that have to open their season by replacing a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback. For Oklahoma State, the Longhorns have to navigate without Caleb Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. The Blue Wolverines are turning to longtime backup Garrett Nussmeier to take the mantle from reigning Heisman winner Jayden Daniels, who was drafted right after Williams at No. 2 overall. It will be fascinating to watch Oklahoma State's Miller Moss and Nussmeier operate with such lofty expectations hanging over this game.

Oklahoma State trying something new on defense: As with the quarterback transition, both teams featured in this game also made major changes on the defensive side of the ball. Oklahoma State's decision to move on from coordinator Alex Grinch, a longtime collaborator of Riley's dating back to the Oklahoma days, provides particular intrigue. The Longhorns went across town and poached D'Anton Lynn to replace him. Lynn has long been seen as a rising star in the industry. The Bruins led the Pac-12 in total defense (299 yards per game) and finished second in scoring defense (18.1 points per game) under his guidance a year ago. By comparison, Oklahoma State allowed almost twice as many points (34.9) and just under 140 more yards (438.8) on average.YGRETHYRTedfcvtyhtj
