Mal Fraser

Mal currently works as a generalist Clinical Nurse at Community Health in Atherton, Far North Queensland. He has been a nurse for over 40 years and has worked within a variety of fields including paediatrics, maternity, oncology and primary health care. Mal has an enormous passion for Men's Health, in particular the needs of men living in rural and remote communities - his current interests include looking at ways to improve access and how to better engage men within the health care system while encouraging male friendly health services. Mal has completed a body of work around what it means to be a healthy male in today's society and the special health needs of some diverse groups of men. He has also explored how we as individuals, and as service providers can work with men to improve health outcomes. This work has been presented at a local health district level and was approved to present at the National Men's Health Gathering in 2020. Mal has also been involved in planning, organising and carrying out a number of local health promotional events, aiming to raise awareness of Men's Health in our communities. These include, however are not limited to; Movember events in 2018 and 2019, Men's Health Week in 2019, Veterans Health Week in 2019 and Rural Minds, 2019. On top of all of these initiatives, Mal has developed a strong working relationship with a number of the Men's Sheds locally, running a number of planned and opportunistic events, including initiating monthly newsletters. Mal has also commenced a Men's Health Interest Group locally - sharing evidence based information, events, health facts and so much more. This group is growing in numbers monthly.
