No Bull gym members raise funds for men’s health

The No Bull HQ gym in Melbourne held a fundraising and awareness-raising event for the Australian Men’s Health Forum (AMHF) on Saturday 17th November.

The event was held in the run up to International Men’s Day with the money raised from the gym’s 9am “bootcamp” being donated to AMHF.

The Australian Men's Health Forum (AMHF) has been involved in "The Silent Killer: Let’s make some noise" campaign, providing expert opinion on some of the actions we need to take to prevent male suicide.

Is Lack Of Sleep Harming Men’s Health?

This week is Sleep Awareness Week (1-7 October 2017), but what has sleep got to do with men’s health? Well, according to the Sleep Health Foundation, sleep problems can be bad for our health, just like other commonly cited risk factors such as obesity, smoking, drinking too much and not exercising enough. Research has also found are also some notable differences between men’s and women’s experiences of sleep problems.

Call for focus on gender differences as suicide rates jump 10%

The resources we invest in suicide prevention need to take account of the differences between men and women, according to Australia’s peak body for men’s health, the Australian Men’s Health Forum (AMHF).

The call for “gender inclusive” suicide prevention strategies comes as Government figures revealed that the number of men and women taking their own lives in Australia rose by nearly 10% in 2017.

Male suicides in Australia up 10 per cent in 2017

The number of male suicides in Australia has risen by nearly 10% from 2,151 deaths in 2016 to 2,348 deaths in 2017, the highest annual figure in over a decade. Suicide now kills more than 8 Australians a day, taking the lives of more than 6 men and 2 women a day on average.

Australian Men Twice As Likely To Get Cancer

Australian Men are twice as likely to get cancer as the rest of the world according to new data from the World Health Organisation's International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC).

Men in Australia have a 1 in 2 chance of getting cancer before the age of 75 (compared to less that 1 in 4 worldwide). For Australian women the chances of getting cancer are 1 in 3.
