Federal Government to fund Indigenous campside health initiative

A mini-series developed by actor and television presenter Ernie Dingo has inspired the Federal Government to invest one million dollars into an indigenous men’s health initiative.

Dingo, who comes from the Yamatji people of the Murchison region of Western Australia, partnered with documentary filmmaker Tom Hearn to produce a four-part mini-series centered around ‘fireside yarns’ with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men.

Gay dads face discrimination

Gay fathers and their children continue to experience stigma and avoid situations because of fear of stigma, a new study from the American Academy of Pediatrics has found.

The study, published on January 14, surveyed men who identified as gay and as fathers, drawing on 732 respondents from 47 states across the United States.

Men with a disability at higher suicide risk

Men with a disability should be considered a priority group when it comes to forming policy around suicide prevention, according to a group of researchers and academics at Melbourne University.

Their recommendation comes as a result of a study into male suicide, which showed that those who reported a disability were more likely to have suicidal thoughts than other men.

Melbourne Shed hosts talk about men's mental health

The Monash Men's Shed in Melbourne is hosting a Men's Mental Health Forum to mark World Mental Health Day on Wednesday 10th October. The "Being A Man" forum will aim to answer the question "what does it mean to be a man in today’s world and how can we improve men’s mental health?" It will feature AMHF board member, Dr Simon Rice, as one of the guest speakers.

Man Facts Campaign Gets Men Talking

A new social media campaign called #KnowYourManFacts got men talking about a range of issues during Men’s Health Week.

Created by the Australian Men’s Health Forum, the #KnowYourManFacts campaign brought together information from around 20 different organisations into a single, cohesive men’s health campaign.
