Dan Repacholi’s introduces monthly men’s health update
The Special Envoy for Men and Member for Hunter, Dan Repacholi, has sent out his first bumper monthly e-newsletter to men called ‘Mate, You Good?’
Dan reports that he has been busy meeting people and learning about men’s health issues in his new role, as well as catching up with hundreds of groups across Australia.
“One thing my team and I keep hearing is that it’s really bloody hard to get clear, practical information about men’s health,” writes Dan in his characteristic, down-to-earth style.
“Sure, you can google it – but too often that sends people down some dodgy rabbit holes. There’s a lot of noise, a fair bit of misinformation, and not enough simple, straightforward stuff that blokes will use.”
Dan’s Men’s Health newsletter sets out to “share solid information that isn’t nonsense, highlight what’s already working, and shine a light on the people and programs making a real difference.”
Each edition, he promises, will update readers on what he’s up to, share useful resources, remind blokes about important health checks and highlight some of the great work being done in men’s health around the country.
The first edition calls on people to ‘suggest a visit’, ‘share a good program’, ‘share some information’ and ‘tell us what’s on’.
Using relatable, blokey language, Dan exhorts men to get a checkup, quoting statistics on preventable life-threatening conditions like obesity, diabetes, prostate cancer and heart health.
His message is backed by information from healthdirect, a government-funded service with quality, approved health information and advice, built with a huge network of trusted information partners.
There is an article on Beer + Bubs, a promotion for Healthy Male’s Dad Starts Now podcast and information about the new Parliamentary Friends of Healthy Masculinity that he launched with Senator David Pocock and Aaron Violi MP on International Men’s Day.
Dan encourages men to become more aware about liver health, which he says, “hits men the hardest.”
“Liver disease and liver cancer don’t make the front page, but they’re becoming major killers especially for men,” writes Dan. “The really scary bit? Most liver disease is silent for years, and most of it is completely preventable.”
Dan, who lost more than 30 kilos using injectable medication, will give men tips each month for managing their health under the banner ‘Do it with Dan’.
His debut edition focuses on healthy weight. “Now’s a great time to hit the reset,” he says, “losing even 10% of your weight can make a real difference.”
Dan doesn’t actually tell people how to lose weight, but instead recommends checking out online resources, “or, have a chat with your GP.”
Also in the first newsletter, Dan promotes bowel cancer testing, Medicare mental health-rebates, the Tough Guy Book Club, erectile dysfunction, heart and prostate checks and the importance of checking in with a mate.
At the end of his extensive communication, Dan reminds readers about the 2026-2027 pre-budget submission, which closes on 30 January.
“If you’re working with Aussie blokes and boys, you see what’s needed every day – put it in a submission. And if you do, flick my office a copy or a quick summary,” he says, including the all-important pre-budget submission link.
