Mentoring Men Launches National ‘Meet a Mate’ Campaign to Tackle Loneliness

Mentoring Men has announced a new national marketing campaign aimed at tackling loneliness and encouraging men across Australia to connect with their mates.

The campaign, titled ‘Meet A Mate’, has been developed by Mentoring Men and the The Man Walk

The initiative builds on Mentoring Men’s mission to provide vital support for men before they reach a point of crisis. Loneliness remains a major issue, with almost one in three Australians experiencing it — and men are particularly affected.

“Loneliness is a growing challenge, but one of the most powerful solutions is simple connection,” a Mentoring Men spokesperson said. “By showcasing real moments of mateship, we want to inspire more men to reach out, talk, and spend time together.”

The campaign challenges men to meet up with as many mates as possible throughout October, which is Mental Health Month. They are invited to create a profile on the new Meet A Mate website and track how many mates they have connected with. Any activity counts, so long as it's with a mate: fishing, tennis, movies, gardening, a phone call. As with many fund-raisers, blokes are encouraged to invite family and friends to support them with a donation. Money raised will help connect more blokes with mates, who've got their back before things go sideways, through Mentoring Men and The Man Walk.

Mentoring Men hopes the campaign will spark a movement across the country, encouraging thousands of men to check in with their mates and reduce the risk of social isolation.
