Stars back International Men's Day event

Two Aussie stars from the worlds of sport and entertainment are taking part in an International Men's Day event to be held in Beaudesert, in South East Queensland this month.

The actor and storyteller, William McInnes, will be joined by captain of the Australian Men's Hockey Team, Mark Knowles, at a free dinner hosted by the Mayor of Scenic District Council, Greg Christensen.

McInnes, who is probably best known for his role in the classic police drama, Blue Heelers, is also the author of nine best-selling books, including his latest outing called "Fatherhood: Stories about being a dad". The book is about family, about memories of his father and the memories he's creating as a dad himself, with his own son and daughter.

Mark Knowles is a former World Player of the Year and has captained the Kookaburras national hockey team since 2014. He was the Australian Flag Bearer for the 2018 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony and is the father of two sons.

Knowles will tell of his time at the helm of the Australian Kookaburras and how a boy from the bush made it all the way to lead the Australian Commonwealth Games Team in 2018.

Mayor Greg Christensen is looking forward to welcoming men from across the Scenic Rim for the International Men's Day celebration. He said:

"It is a time to catch up with good mates, old mates and even meet some new mates. I am looking forward to listening to our speakers discuss their family lives and balancing that with their successful careers. It is a worthwhile conversation to enable us to commend Scenic Rim men for being the positive role models that they are."

The event takes place on Thursday 15th November in the run up to International Men's Day on Monday 19th November.
