We have a long-standing commitment to advocating for policies that improve men's health.  As a result, Australia became one of the first countries with a National Male Health Policy in 2010.

RECENT WORK

SINCE 2016

We published position papers on the need to update the National Male Health Policy and the need for male-friendly approaches to suicide prevention.

2017

We secured a commitment from the Government to update the National Male Health Policy.

We secured funding under the Government's Male Health Initiative to provide advice on men's health issues.

2018

We played a key role in the development of the National Men's Health Strategy 2020-2030.

2019

We released nine report cards on the state of men’s health in Australia (8 state/territory and one national).

AMHF CEO Glen Poole was a member of the Expert Advisory Group established by the Morrison Government’s National Suicide Prevention Advisor, Christine Morgan.

2020

We made submissions to the consultation of the National Preventive Health Strategy calling for men's health to be a priority issue.

We were funded by the National Mental Health Commission to research men's lived experience of suicide to inform Ms Morgan's work.

We invited Australians to write a message of support to the Prime Minister to develop a national plan to tackle male suicide through our campaign ‘SAVE AUSSIE MEN’.

2021

Following an extensive consultation period over 18 months, her final advice to the PM included a strong focus on tackling male suicide.

We secured funding under the Health Peak and Advisory Bodies program to advise Government on men's health issues.

We launched our Charter for Men's Mental Health at a virtual round table event with the Hon David Coleman MP, Assistant Minister to the Prime Minister for Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, where we secured a commitment for more funding male suicide prevention programs.

2022

The Government increased funding for male suicide prevention programs under the National Suicide Prevention Leadership and Support program.

We undertook research on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on men and boys, commissioned by the National Mental Health Commission.
