In the run up to International Men's Day (IMD) the Australian Men's Health Forum has been highlighting 100+ groups around Australia doing great work to support men and boys.

Wellteam is a community-built, member-based and science-backed initiative that encourages men to optimise mind and body fitness with online tools, forums, competitions and events. Each month, members take on 10 of the World’s Healthiest Habits in the Wellteam Global Challenge. Wellteam has a free Scorecard tool that relates to different areas of life, and directs men to customise their program.
WNOW stands for When No One is Watching, and began when two mates - Tadhg Kennelly and Dave Eccles - decided to look out for each other in a more intentional way. It has since turned into a global movement where every Wednesday 3000 men around the world show up for each other. WNOW creates environments where men feel safe to connect authentically, share openly and learn from their peers to enable them to be happier when they are by themselves and with their loved ones.
Dardi Munwarro (Strong Spirit) is a specialist Aboriginal family violence service. Its vision is to build stronger families and safer communities. They aim to empower and inspire individuals to heal the past, acknowledge the present, and create a positive vision for the future. They do this by delivering a range of family violence programs to break the cycle of inter-generational trauma in Aboriginal families and communities.
Man UP Tasmania is a men's mental health organisation based on the North West Coast of Tasmania.The group hosts a variety of public events, often in partnership with local clubs and community organisations, like free mental health workshops with guest speakers, pizza, and drinks. Man UP has a particular focus on creating a supportive environment for men to connect and share their experiences.
Men Care Too provides news, resources and information relevant for all men with a particular focus on blokes in unpaid, informal caring roles. Based in Ulverstone, Tasmania, the organisation connects blokes to other events organised by groups like Mr Perfect, The Man Walk and Mates Coffee Club. MCT aims to increase awareness and recognition of men in unpaid, informal caring roles.
Movember started in 2003 when mates Travis Garone and Luke Slattery found 30 guys willing to take up the challenge of growing a moustache and generate a conversation about men’s health. Initially funds raised went to Prostate Cancer but more health projects were funded as the movement expanded globally. They now unite experts from around the world to collaborate on projects that will fundamentally change the way men in need are treated and supported.
The Outback Mind Foundation was established in 2019 by Aaron Schultz as a vehicle to empower men throughout regional Australia to live healthier, happier and more consciously connected lives. The organisation provides well-being solutions that aim to help men get in front of their physical, mental, and emotional health with resources, information, tools, and strategies on a range of topics.
Men’s Toolbox provides support services for men going through relationship challenges, family separation and domestic violence matters. Renea Jury and Chris Richardson started the organisation to support men going through tough times. Tailored services include online courses, educational blogs, and tailored packages for men going through separation.
Mountain Men was established in 2018 to give men across the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria the opportunity to make and build new friendships in a safe, inclusive environment. They now run an array of programs and events including regular game nights, a mountain dads group, yarning circles, fitness group, an annual gathering and job sharing to help group members maintain their properties.
Cecil’s Men’s Hub was created by Paul Kefford and stands for Committed to Empower the Community to Improve Lives. He describes his platform as a ‘1-stop’ place for everything in Men’s Work, to help Men move forward in their lives & become the best version of themselves. Paul has developed a Worldwide Men’s Group Directory bringing together groups and organisations committed to men’s wellbeing, and making them easy to find, access, and join.
Island of Men is a collective of like-minded individuals that come together to teach, inspire and support each other. They operate under a not-for-profit structure and their events are organised by a team of volunteers. The Island of Men community continues to grow, expanding across Australia, with IOM events finding new homes in Sydney and Tasmania, while planting seeds across the globe.
