Celebrating a global village for Men's Sheds Week

This week it is Men's Sheds Week 2022 (Sunday 4 to Saturday 10 September), which will celebrate the theme "a global village, doing local good".

Men's Sheds are a vital part of Australia's men's health sector, placing a strong focus on the health benefits of having access to social connection in male-friendly settings.

There are over 1,200 Men’s Sheds around Australia (that’s more Men’s Sheds than Macca’s restaurants) and more than 50,000 Australians directly benefit from participation in the grassroots movement.

This year the Australian Men's Sheds Association (AMSA) will lead a Men’s Shed Week campaign promoting the benefits of Men’s Sheds to the broader public as well as holding a number of Men’s Shed Week events.
Men’s Sheds around the country are also hosting their own local Open Days and shed events to mark the occasion. The focus of local events is to celebrate the diversity of "Shedders" and shed activities  and highlight the contributions Men’s Sheds make to their local community.

According to AMSA, Men’s Shed Week is an annual opportunity to collectively showcase Men’s Sheds to the world. It's also seen as a great chance to focus government, corporate partners, media and the community on the benefits and positive contributions Men’s Sheds make to the Australian community.

AMSA Chairman Paul Sladdin said:

“Men’s Sheds are an Australian invention that is now an international phenomenon enhancing – even saving – the lives of many men, and building better communities. Men’s Sheds foster community spirit, cultivate social connectedness and contribute to building a more inclusive Australia."
