Mentoring Men’s mission receives community funding boost

Mentoring Men, a not-for-profit mental health enterprise that provides one-to-one life mentoring, has received a $22,000 grant from Calderwood Valley Seedling Fund & Community Enterprise Foundation™.

The Foundation facilitates a wide range of grants for eligible charities and not-for-profit organisations in Australia that supports Community projects.

Mentoring Men says their grant will boost their project, Supporting Men on Their Life Journey through Building Communities of Support.

The organisation’s vision is to connect 100,000 men who need support with 100,000 men who can provide it.

“On average, 100,000 men will suffer from mental health challenges like loneliness, anxiety and depression every year in Australia,” says Mentoring Men.

“But with the early intervention of a mentor, these challenges can be prevented from escalating into full-blown mental health crises.

“Someone who’s there to listen to their problems, to support them when the going gets tough. Who’s there for the long haul.”

In addition to Mentoring Men’s core mentoring activities, they organise events, including men’s walk and talks, men’s breakfasts, forums, webinars and social events.

On 1 May 2024, Mentoring Men’s CEO Simon Jarvis will lead a session at the Construction Wellbeing Stage at the Sydney Build Expo, Australia’s largest Construction & Design Show.

His workshop is titled: “Inhale 1, 2, 3 … Exhale 1, 2, 3 … Managing Stress & Anxiety in the Workplace.”

Mentoring Men says the team at Sydney Build is calling on people to join their Mental Health in Construction Ambassador team to help them challenge the stigma surrounding mental health in the construction industry.

Their mission is to get the sector talking, to change the perceptions around mental health and to highlight why it is so important to talk about it!
