New online group for men experiencing anxiety

A new online group for males with anxiety will kick off on Saturday, October 21 at 1pm.

The WayAhead Men’s Online Anxiety Support group will take place on the third Saturday of each month.

The focus of the meetings is to share personal experiences with anxiety and information in a safe, friendly and informative environment.

According to Beyond Blue, 1 in 4 people in Australia are impacted by anxiety, or 3 million people. For men it is more common than depression.

“Anxious feelings are a normal reaction to a high-pressure situation – for example, meeting work deadlines, sitting exams or speaking in public,” says Beyond Blue.

“However, for some men these anxious feelings happen for no apparent reason or continue long after the stressful event has passed. These anxious feelings can seem uncontrollable and can make it hard to cope with daily life.”

Anxiety signs and symptoms

The WayAhead Men’s Anxiety Online Support Group is facilitated by trained volunteers. As they are not qualified health professionals, the meeting it is not recommended for anyone experiencing high levels of distress.
