Rotary clubs support regional men’s health checks
Rotary clubs in Coffs Harbour, Coffs Harbour Daybreak, Coffs Harbour City, Dorrigo, Sawtell and Woolgoolga have combined efforts with Bunnings sausage sizzles to support the Men’s Health Rural Education Van, otherwise known as MHERV.
Since 2017, MHERV has been travelling around rural and regional NSW encouraging men to have a health check-up.
Of the 13,500 blokes tested by MHERV, 6370 were found to be in need of treatment and 460 were in immediate danger of a stroke or heart attack.
The 10-minute free health screenings are delivered by a registered nurse in a mobile home. The NSW Department of Health helped out with a replacement vehicle last year, but for the most MHERV continues on the efforts of fundraisers.
Each year 3500 people are treated in 150 locations, with MHERV heading to the Coffs Coast and Hinterland in October
“So as not to miss the van’s visit please note in your diaries that the van will start its visit to this area on 23 October in Woolgoolga, then go to Coffs Harbour, Sawtell, Urunga, Bellingen before finishing in Dorrigo on 2 November,” Sawtell Rotary’s Peter Paff told News Of The Area.
“In each town Nurse Stephen will have Rotarians acting as receptionists to answer questions and obtain basic details.
“Spare 10 minutes that could save your life.”
“Local Rotary clubs are happy to support the van, and we enjoy the chance to work together on events of this nature.”
