Swimming for Tassie Dads

Ocean swimmer Ivan Cunningham is back in the water in November, raising money for men's health.

The Tasmanian counsellor will complete seven swims in seven days around southern Tassie in support of dads, in particular, a resource that has helped with the challenges of parenting.

Aptly called The Dads Book, Men’s Resources Tasmania produced the first edition of the book in 2020 with the intention for a copy to go to every dad at childbirth.

"We've had some brilliant feedback about it - including from a couple of child health nurses (who support parents in the first 3-6 months after birth) to the point they have even felt the book has helped maintain relationships and certainly made dads feel more supported," says MRT vice president Jonathan Bedloe.

MRT is seeking funds to revise the resource, available for download here.

Also, check out MRT’s The Blokes e-book, a directory of services, contacts, support groups, current information and commentary from services and men in the Tasmanian community.

One of those is Ivan Cunningham, who swam for 22 successive days last year to raise funds and awareness about men's mental health. This year's swim challenge
